Grensgevallen
Yo! Opera productie (The Netherlands)
in collaboration with Neuköllner Oper

The fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 has been the source of inspiration for the opera Grensgevallen [Borderlines]. In 2009 we have a climate crisis and a credit crunch; we have poverty and war. Reason enough for a change. If Obama can do it, you can do it too! For the opera Grensgevallen, Yo! Opera asked ten young people from Utrecht and Berlin what they would like to change in the world around them.
The Black and the Beautiful

Have you ever heard a nightingale sing? That's exactly how beautifully the Looney Singer sings. Her voice is so beautiful that two musicians decide to catch her. She is caged inside a music box and travels along theatres where she has to sing concerts.
But then things go wrong. At first, her voice becomes as raw as a crow's. And then she's no longer able to produce any sound. The musicians don't know what to do. It could have been such a beautiful concert, but now it turns into a complete disaster.
Stadt der Hunde: Een hondenopera
Yo! Opera productie
in collaboration with Neuköllner Oper
14+
Composer: Sinem Altan, Librettist: Tina Müller, Director: Mario Portmann
Three dogs, a Dobermann, a German Shepherd and a pug dog, meet during a cold winter night in Neukölln, a multicultural neighbourhood in Berlin. They are not content with where they live. They do not receive any respect or love from their owners and decide to run away from home. While they wander about the streets, they dream of a better life. Just when all things seem to go completely wrong, everything suddenly turns out differently.
Blow Your Mind
VocaaLAB Nederland (The Netherlands)

Composers: Fanny Alofs and Jelke Smit, Librettist: Fanny Alofs, Directors: Marielle Vester and Romain Bischoff, with the cooperation of pupils of Oosterlicht College in Nieuwegein
What happens when you think too much, or when you have too many obligations? Or when you are too different from others? And what happens when suddenly everything is up to you? The pressure to achieve, not to want to miss anything and to be present everywhere; do you feel that too?
Flat Faustdreef De Operaflat
Yo! Opera productie (The Netherlands)
All ages
25 doors in one flat. A one minute mini opera behind each door. Ring the door bell, the door swings open and someone sings you an opera, standing very close to you. On their favourite food. Reminding you of your father's chewing jaws. On Dutch stews and sweet baklava. You can choose which doorbell to ring and make your own opera. Or try them all! The operas were made by young pupils of Gerrit Rietveld College and students at conservatories in composition and classical singing, with the help of a resident of the flat at the Faustdreef in Utrecht and a director.
Globe College Wegwijzers
Yo! Opera productie (The Netherlands)

Artistic Director: Niels Vermeulen, Aristic Team: Babak Amiri, Jurgen van Harskamp, Charles Hens, Robbert van Hulzen, Tamar Niamut
An opera 'in the mix' using various music styles, made by pupils of Globe College in Kanaleneiland (Utrecht) and professional opera makers. This cross-over opera is about the future and asks questions like: What are you going to do after you have finished school? Where are you going?
