Everyone knows the story of Cinderella. Lieveke, a girl with a street organ, fares the same way. She has two evil sisters who are after Peerke, a rosy-cheeked and attractive farmer's son. This unique musical comedy centred around a street organ is performed on a special location. The Nationaal Museum van Speelklok tot Pierement [national museum from musical clock to street organ] forms the decor of the performance, and it is accompanied by five monumental dance organs. refreshing

Soprano Monique Krüs and mezzo soprano Xenia Meijer have made a collection of their favourite arias and songs. They will sing them together with you in the foyer of Muziekcentrum Vredenburg.

Four musicians in a salon. There is a lamp next to each musician, which can be switched on and off. A bit further you will find dress up clothes, illustrations, wires, audio equipment and more junk. Music can be heard. Suddenly it becomes clear that not the musicians, but the audience get the music going. This is the start of a lot of toing and froing between audience and orchestra.

Have a seat in the 'photo booth' where an audio and visual portrait is taken of you. Your facial expressions and the sound you produce are connected in a loop. All portraits are projected in rows on a video screen and are as it were transformed into an enormous polyphonic perpetual mobile of heads singing together.

After having being missing for three weeks, the little girl Julie is found in the basement of her deceased grandmother. A psychologist tries to find out why Julie and her dog were hiding there. Bit by bit Julie's secret is revealed. She dreamed how, during the night she died, grandmother announced that she would leave Julie a very special inheritance. It is a dream about a beautiful and miraculous country: Pacamambo.

Hansel and Gretel is a beautiful story on children's fears. Youth theatre company Sonnevanck and the Nieuw Ensemble succeeded in transforming it into a fun and exciting musical theatrical show. Especially for this project, Gerard Beljon wrote a composition which expresses all kinds of emotions. Act and music form a perfect match, which creates quite some excitement on stage.

Presentation master class Roberta Alexander
During the Yo! Opera Festival, six singers get the chance to work for one entire day on a classical opera piece of their choice with the famous soprano Roberta Alexander. She pays attention to technique and presentation, but especially to performing opera for children. During the final presentation the candidates are thrown in at the deep end: children get a chance to ask them all kinds of difficult questions.

But who has ever listened to the beautiful and often refreshing pieces written by contemporary composers, full of caprices and unexpected turns, new harmonies and theatricalities? Two singers of the Nederlands Vocaal Laboratorium will show you some vocal theatrical mastery.

Daniela is an opera. It is modeled after the life of an Argentine woman. She's the type who takes street children into her own house. One day, the police are at the door. Daniela has stolen a child, they say. A mother wants it back. Indignation everywhere. Until the truth comes to light.

Shortly after having written his first opera L’Orfeo, Monteverdi chose the myth of Ariadne and Theseus as the starting point for his project. Except for the famous Lamento d’Arianna, the entire composition was lost. However, the libretto was saved. At the invitation of the Vlaamse Opera, Zomer van Antwerpen and Yo!, Transparant worked together with a cast of forty young singers and musicians to make an exclusive version of this piece of cultural heritage from the Baroque.

Twelve young composers, fresh graduates or still conservatory students, were given the following assignment: write a short piece of ten minutes and make sure it is suitable and engaging for a young audience. The result of this young opera workshop can be heard during a marathon presentation. A perfect night for whoever wants to meet a new generation of young opera makers!
