Theatergroep DOX / Het Lab Utrecht / Yo! Opera
Opera 2.0

Yo! Opera programme extra performance
Saturday 26th of November, 3 pm

Facebook, Twitter, Wikipedia, YouTube: ways of using the internet in a so-called '2.0' way. The production and reception of information is now in the hands of anyone with a computer and internetconnection. The content on the internet is 'user-generated', meaning that everybody can add information as he or she wishes. Director Joost van Hezik imagined a 2.0 opera: an opera written by you, about what you like, hate and dream about.
The process of making this opera evolves from the combination of the personal stories of two groups of teenagers who are invited to visit the performance. Both in the Netherlands as well as in Egypt these stories are collected, combined and set to music. Music about the revolution in a country where freedom was absent for most people. And music about a country where everything is available but everyone forgot why. Music by and for people for with unbridgeable differences ánd shocking similarities.
Director Joost van Hezik, composer Bart van de Lisdonk and choreographer Jeanine Coco work with five young performers of Theatergroep Dox to transform this libretto into an opera by means of voice, body and movement. The performers try to return the essence of the words to the writers themselves: the writers being present in the audience. The soul of our youth is full of contradictions and drenched in the conviction of being solitary. Perhaps this performance will show that this is not necessarily the case...
