De Tweede Mijl

Anthony Dunstan & Abel Nienhuis

Against the background of the public space of Amsterdam this opera describes the journey of the young artist Martin looking for inspiration and meaning. He works as a volunteer in a homeless shelter where he hopes to find stories and characters for the opera he is conceiving. But he fails in finding these: there are no characters nor stories that he can trust. He encounters ethical and artistic dilemmas he never expected to come across. Through these meetings the audience gets a multifaceted image of how Martin is caught by all people crossing his path. De Tweede Mijl takes you through the caleidoscope of characters surrounding a young artist and how they contribute to the formation of his artistry.
